New roof lantern shines in Leckhampton

“We love the roof lantern that Cheltenham Glass and Glazing have installed at our house. It brings so much natural light in to our kitchen and is stunning to look at”

Mr & Mrs K, Leckhampton

Getting natural light in to a property can make a huge difference to the look and feel of a room and the installation of roof lanterns has become a popular way to achieve this for Gloucestershire residents.

Roof lanterns are made-to-measure glass structures designed to maximise the amount of natural light in a room. They can be installed as part of a roof replacement project or as part of an extension.

Cheltenham Glass and Glazing were recently booked to install a slate grey Wendland roof lantern at the Leckhampton home of Mr & Mrs K, who wanted to replace an old roof light for something more modern.

Adam met with the Gloucestershire customers to discuss their needs and to offer advice about the size and style of lantern that would best suit the property.

“Our customers knew that they wanted a traditional style roof lantern with multiple panes of glass but were unsure what style and colour lantern to choose,”

“I was able to go through the options available to them to make sure Mr & Mrs K benefitted from the maximum brightening effects”, he continued.

Overall, it took Cheltenham Glass and Glazing about half a day’s work to remove the old lantern and replace it with the new Wendland lantern.

Flooding a room with natural light, roof lanterns are made with toughened glass which can be upgraded to have a self-cleaning coating, which our Leckhampton customers opted to have.

This clever coating works in two ways to keep glass clear all year round. Firstly it helps to break down dirt by reacting with natural daylight and then causes raindrops to create a thin film across the whole surface. This makes the dirt washes away and the lantern continues to allow maximum light in to the building.

Another optional extra for roof lanterns is the addition of tinted glass, which can be helpful if the lantern faces a southerly direction and has the potential to allow too much light inside. Tints can also affect the temperature and energy efficiency of a room.
