Glazing trends for 2025

As the season’s change and we begin to see signs of spring outside, here at Cheltenham Glass and Glazing we see thoughts turning to making the best of our homes for the year ahead.

Perhaps you’ve been thinking about updating your windows and doors but been put off by the cold, wet weather that seems to have been with us forever…well, now is the time to turn those thoughts into actions!

But what are the latest trends in glass and glazing in the UK this year? Read on to find out more.

1.   Maximise your minimalism

The number one trend that we predict for 2025 is customers opting for large windows uninterrupted by frames and with less openers than in the past. Look out for floor to ceiling windows with slender frames and clean lines.

“Minimalist designs are becoming increasingly popular with our Gloucestershire customers. We’ve noticed that customers want larger panels of glass in their windows and larger openers.”

Whereas transom openers have traditionally been installed, there is now an increasing preference for maximizing airflow into rooms by incorporating fewer but larger opening windows into rooms. This minimalist approach to window design not only enhances air circulation but also allows for maximum natural light penetration into spaces. Fewer frames within windows also look less cluttered.

2.   Bring the outside inside

Bifold doors are one way to seamlessly connect your home and garden

During 2024 we were inundated with orders for jobs to install bi-fold and patio doors across Gloucestershire. This is definitely a trend that we see continuing in 2025.

Blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces is a clever way of opening up living spaces to seamlessly connect rooms and garden areas.

Bi-fold doors remain popular, with minimal frames and maximum glazing, however we do find that they are more of a luxury item, due to their high cost. Depending on room layouts and space, we often recommend that our Cheltenham Glass and Glazing customers consider patio doors, which are often more affordable. They have the added benefit of opening within their own space so do not require room to house the doors when they concertina up.

3.   Let the light shine in

As mentioned above, we are already seeing an emphasis on maximising natural light through the installation of larger windows and slimline frames. Not only are there health benefits to have spaces that are well lit by natural light, but there are also significant cost benefits.

Natural light is so beneficial to our mental health. It helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, helps our sleep patterns and makes us happier – it is a natural mood enhancer - and it is free! A room that is well lit by natural light will require less artificial lighting which will have a positive impact on your household bills. It’s win-win!

4.   Focus on sustainability

Replacing misted window panes is a cheaper and more sustainable option than replacing whole window frames

Sustainability will continue to play a central role in 2025. Manufacturers and customers alike have become increasingly aware of the need to reduce the use of resources and this is being reflected in product design.

At Cheltenham Glass and Glazing we predict that 2025 will see products that have good eco-credentials becoming even more popular. Expect to see recycled aluminium frames in product ranges, along with responsibly sourced timber and recycled materials used in new uPVC frames.

Sustainably produced products are taking over the market, offering style and durability along with environmental responsibility.

Of course, replacing windows and doors is not always necessary. If you have a misted pane of glass or a broken handle or hinge, please don’t think you need to replace the whole unit.

Cheltenham Glass and Glazing are your local experts in window and door repairs across the Gloucestershire region. If we can reduce your costs by repairing a product we will. Sustainability is at the core of our business, be that by saving our customers money or saving products from landfill.

5.   Energy efficiency

New double and triple glazing will help your home to be more energy efficient

Coupled with a focus on sustainability is the continuing trend for energy efficiency. Modern windows and doors have exceptional insulation properties, that can help to keep rooms both cool in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Advances in glazing technology mean that new double and triple glazed window units offer better insulation than ever before, both thermal and sound based.

Composite doors offer greater insulative properties than uPVC but modern uPVC is far better than its predecessors, so whatever your choice, Cheltenham Glass and Glazing will install products that will help to better insulate your home, reducing energy loss and energy consumption in your Gloucestershire home. Great for the environment and great for your pocket.
